Roundhouse Preservation, Inc. Minutes of the April 6, 2009 Meeting.
The April 6, 2009 meeting of the Board of Directors of Roundhouse Preservation, Inc. (RPI) was called to order by President Linda Orrell with the following directors present: Becky Osterwald, Dee Ann Blevins, Kate Piskorski and Roxie Devers. Also present was Kay. Christie and John LaBorde.
The minutes of the March 9, 2009 meeting were read and amended to state that Coors is donating a flag, but nothing has been heard yet from Budweiser. The minutes were approved as corrected.
Dee gave the Treasurer’s report, with the balance in the checking account being $5,772.27 and the money market $39,025.34. We received dues from the Lincoln County Historical Society, Osborne’s, and Carl and Brenda Dutro, and have to pay our dues to the National Trust in the amount of $115.00. We sold $840 in tickets for the fish fry, plus received $190 in donations. Dee added that Don Bain will do the audit and she is getting the books ready for him.
Roxie reported that verbal notification was received that $555,000 in stimulus funding was awarded for the roof on the roundhouse. Dave Wittman with Martin/Martin Engineers has revised the specs and the plan documents to reflect that the roof over all eight bays will be replaced. Nan Rickey, our Preservation Specialist with the State Historical Fund, would not approve adding 4” of rigid insulation to the roof since it created a much thicker roof than was there historically. Merrill Wilson, the Historic Architect, came up with a plan to taper the insulation and stretch it back from the roof edges, which Nan approved.
Roxie added that she is working with the CDOT Historian on Section 106, which is the part of the National Historic Preservation Act that requires federal agencies to take into account the effect that their federally funded activities and programs have on significant historic properties. The State Historic Preservation Officer is also involved in the review process and, upon receipt of the appropriate paperwork, has 30 days to officially act on it. The town of Hugo and Lincoln County will also apparently have the opportunity to comment.
Other than that, Roxie said she will be attending a meeting on April 22nd with CDOT representatives and other local agency contacts who received stimulus funding to discuss project schedules and address any questions or comments. On the 23rd she will be attending training on how to certify payroll, which is another requirement of receiving federal funding.
The members then discussed the fundraisers for the 100th Anniversary, with Roxie providing examples of the mug with the photo and different fonts. She thought the photo was dark and didn’t “show” the roundhouse very well so Dee and Terry both worked on it and came up with lightened photos, which she sent to Becky Thompson. A revised draft hasn’t been received yet. By a vote of three to one, the font on sample #2 was chosen for the mugs. The wording on the mugs was discussed further and it was decided to add “Railroad” after “U.P.”, to either bold “Roundhouse” or enlarge the font, and to maybe change Colorado to CO. Roxie will contact Becky concerning the changes and ask her opinion about how to emphasize roundhouse and changing the spelling of Colorado.
Dee reported that she hasn’t heard back from Richard Meier about the engineer caps. Linda reported that she had the postcards and greeting cards printed and purchased the envelopes, with the cost being about $200. However, Kinko’s did not print on the back of the postcards, so she will have to return them to be finished. Packaging for the cards was discussed, with Dee suggesting zip lock bags. Linda also reported that Jim Emmerling will do the presentation at the roundhouse. Kay. will work further on her story for him to use and Dee will get him some facts.
The members decided to set up a table in the park to sell items and to use Roxie’s pickup to take a sampling of each over to the roundhouse during Jim’s presentation.
Kate reported that she put a thank you in the papers for the food donations, the people who helped, and the support for the fish fry.
Under other business, John asked if news of the stimulus funding was placed on the website. Linda said it had been agreed to wait until written notice had been received first. Dee said she would like to see our minutes posted there, so Roxie will get the approved ones to Chris. The annual newsletter would also be a good item for the website, as well as the events to occur on May 16th for the 100th anniversary. Since State Representative Cory Gardner had mentioned getting a 100th anniversary certificate from the Governor for the roundhouse, Kay. will contact him about this.
The next Board of Directors meeting will be May 4, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. at the VFW.
With no further business to come before the Board of Directors, the meeting was adjourned.
