About RPI
Roundhouse Preservation, Inc. (RPI), a 501(c)(3) located in Lincoln County, Colorado received its non-profit status on March 20, 2002.  Our mission statement is "To preserve for future generations the history of the American West and our railroad heritage".  Our focus is the preservation and restoration of the Union Pacific Railroad roundhouse in Hugo, Colorado.  Even though the roundhouse is owned by Lincoln County, RPI has taken the lead in preservation of this historic structure.

To date, RPI has received three State Historical Fund grants to begin restoration of the roundhouse.  Along with a grant received by Lincoln County, the roundhouse has been shored up and is no longer in imminent danger of collapse.  The exterior masonry work has been completed, the engineering for replacement of the roof is in progress, and once that is completed the latest grant will be used to reconstruct the roof over two of the eight bays on the roundhouse.

The Board of Directors is pleased with the work completed to date, especially since we are much further along than many individuals thought we would ever be.  However, the Board understands the daunting task ahead to raise the funds necessary to replace the roof, windows and doors in order to enclose the roundhouse and protect it from the elements.  Several other grants applied for have yet to be announced and we continue with fundraising locally.  However, in a rural community such as Lincoln County we compete with many other fundraising activities and do not have a large number of railroad buffs and/or people interested in historic preservation to draw from who share our vision for the restored roundhouse.  Funding sources other than locally need to be sought.

The current Board of Directors of RPI is Becky Osterwald, President, Linda Orrell, Vice President, Roxie Devers, Secretary, Dee Ann Blevins, Treasurer and Kate Piskorski, Membership.
